Some Light Narrative and The Notable Things On My Mind Lately

       Hello all.
It's been two weeks which is far too long. The last week and a half have been quite busy with three horrible lovely midterms, a paper or two, and a spanish presentation. I don't have the capacity right now to keep up my streak of serious posts so this one will have to be in my favorite post format: you guessed it, lists.
I love lists and I'm not ashamed of it. Perhaps, this love reflects my generation's need for information quickly but I don't buy that explanation—in fact, don't generalize/hate on my generation because I'll get defensive and nobody wants that. Rather, I love to write down what I know, and see it all written out. In my notebooks from middle school you can find lists of my favorite tv shows, my current best friends, the players of the '06 Bears Super Bowl team, and all the professional baseball players I could name at the time. I have a book of lists as well that is probably one of my most well-read books, after all of Andrew Clemens' books (don't even get me started on how great the book Frindle is). I believe it was some sort of almanac of facts for middle-schoolers; regardless, it never got old.
In the last four years or so I have spent far too much time on the website Sporcle taking quizzes and quizzes on meaningless crap. Sure, there were some educational ones; at my peak, I could name 165 countries. (Oh, you think that's not a big deal? Well it is. See, it helps no one when I get defense.) But there was also the boys names of the 2000s quiz that I took, I kid you not, probably over ten timesSebastian and Jeremiah, believe it or not, are on that list. I digress.
I have to admit, as much as I love lists, I'm not a big fan of Buzzfeed and only read the occasional forwarded "article." I much prefer the lesser-known site Cracked. Anyhow, that was my way of adding some narrative to the following. Also, if you only have time for fantastic writing, this would be a good place to stop. You will miss out on a look into the inner-workings of your daughter/granddaughter/niece/cousin/friend's mind. Your call, y'all (my mom's from Arkansaws, so I have hereditary permission to say that).

The somewhat Notable Things On My Mind Lately
  1. Should I name my future (like really, really far future) son Esau? As in from the Bible? As in the twin of Jacob who get duped by his brother and then mutters perhaps the saddest line in the Bible: “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” I like the name. But I also don't want to name my child something that he has to constantly correct and pronounce. I also don't want him to get laughed at.
  2. Is it acount or account? Amount or ammount? Why? WHY? Grandpa, can you answer this one for me?
  3. Continuing with the Bible theme (I guess Intro to Judaism is getting to me... drat): whenever I meet someone named Rachel I immediately think of Genesis and resent her. Okay, so not actually, only a little. On the same theme, my parents named me Leah and named my brother Jacob. So I'm the extremely fertile, first, less liked wife of my brother. Thanks M and D.
  4. Politics. I have just finished Season 2 of The West Wing (a show that when I was younger and saw the box set in my friend's house thought was about a space ship or plane type thing). Right now, in my mind, Jed Bartlet is the President of the United States, not Barack Obama. Right now, we are in a budget surplus, not a massive deficit. I need help.
  5. They should really tell you it's cold up here. With four weeks until spring break, the photos below are what's getting me through the bonechilling cold of Northfield. Thanks Instagram!
Finally, here's a shoutout to my friend Elizabeth who attends Villanova and will be going to class for the next SEVEN (7!) Sundays because of class cancelations due to weather. I may be in school 'til June but at least my nondenominational liberal arts school lets me have Sundays off #villanofun
I'm out. Saludos cordiales. Radical Judaism awaits.

P.S. That will be first and last hashtag on my blog that is not a a direct quote from someone else. Apologies to all.
