Thank You, Richard Sherman, For Not Being Like Every Other Post Game Interviewee

The Richard Sherman story--or Sherman-gate (aren't we using the -gate suffix for anything at all "scandal"-like?) is everywhere and from it a plethora of angles and opinions have emerged. I've read the race article, I've read the he's still a dick article, and I've seen the horrible and disgusting Twitter responses article. I'm here to put a new spin on it. This is the honest interview article.
But first, if you don't check Deadspin and Slate every couple of hours and have missed this non-story that is now a full-blown story, this is the deal: Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman tips the 49ers' last ditch attempt at a NFC championship victory into the hands of a teammate who catches it in the end zone. Game essentially over. Seahawks win, proceed to Super Bowl. Sherman is intercepted by Fox reporter Erin Andrews for a post game interview. You can watch here as I still don't how to embed a video.
Andrews: “Take me through it (the INT)?”
Sherman (screaming while staring at the camera): "Well, I'm the best corner in the game! When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that's the result you are going to get! Don't you talk about me!"
via ABC news.
Michael Crabtree, the intended receiver on that play, and Sherman have a now-emerging history of back and forth, in and out of game, jabs. Such is the NFL. Such are competitive sports. Now, Sherman is being chided for his enthusiasm, unsportsmanlike conduct, and arrogance.
But I see it like this. The man just made the play of his career 30-some seconds ago. He sent his team to the Superbowl. He's been playing out of his mind all season. He's not spewing unwarranted bullshit about his skill.
And for once, a post game interview featured some heart, some emotion, and some anger. For once, we didn't get those boring and generic responses to the all-to-common questions of "How did you push through X" or "What was going through your mind during X?" For once, God wasn't thanked for providing X player strength to proceed; the play of other teammates wasn't mentioned either. Watch any sports contest and you'll see it at halftime with the coaches and at the end of the game with star players. It's horrible.
Why can't we reward his authenticity and his personality? As a reporter this would be the best possible interview I could imagine. This makes up for all those boring post game interviews. This is sports and this is why we watch sports. For spontaneity, for authenticity, for reality, for personality. Thank you Richard Sherman.
